Yoga originated nearly 5,000 years ago. It is studied as a philosophy, method or discipline that teaches physical health, mental clarity and spiritual consciousness. Our ability to connect globally increases everyday through technology. Yoga helps the individual to connect with themselves and all that surrounds them.

Hatha Yoga takes a physical approach to finding bodily health, mental clarity and spritual consciousness. Hatha Yoga uses the asana-s (postures) and pranayama (breathwork) to develop a greater awareness of the physical body, a union of body and mind. An individual's ability to concentrate or focus becomes greater. As these three unite (postures, breath and concentration) a deeper awareness of mind, body and spirit is revealed. The physical, mental and spiritual aspects of an individual become more balanced, more harmonious.

A yoga practice brings the entire body into balance. You will learn techniques to improve your breathing, physical strength and flexibility, and reduce the adverse effects of daily stress. Through the connection of the body, breath and mind the whole person can discover steadiness, ease and calm in their daily life.

Yoga is for everyone. The classes at the Yoga Connection are varied. Before choosing a class give a call and find out which class may best fit your needs.

The thoughts and perceptions of our daily experiences can come to rule our lives and determine how we react to events, to relationships, and even how we treat our own selves. Mindful Awareness Medidation is a technique that helps us unlock ourselves from habits of unconscious reaction to the new possibilities of responding and being in our daily lives. By becoming aware of our true experiences, we can gain insight into our habitual reactions such as anger, sadness, over-eating or judgement, and move toward real change. Through Duke's Integrative Medicine program, Martha has completed her training of Mindful Awareness Medidation using the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction model of John Kabot-Zinn, University of Massachusetts, Amherst.   Join the Yoga Connection on Facebook
